Its that time of the year again where we all celebrate #GivingWeekSG and champion Singapore as a #CityofGood.
That is not to say that we only bring out the spirit of giving this one week of the year, but really take the extra time and effort to recognise the importance of giving, and to give thanks to the people around us who make a difference for our society. What is most meaningful is that there are the right people in the right place doing the right things at the right time, and that is what is worth raising a glass to, tipping your hat off, nodding your head for, cheering and clapping for…or simply saying THANKS for being part of our #CityofGood.
At Shiok! we are always committed to the cause and movement led by NVPC, and this year we are partnering with the tightly-knit bunch from University at Buffalo Alumni Association (UBAA) Singapore Chapter to run a collection drive all through December for #GivingWeekSG. The drive aims to collect pre-loved items from friends and family of Shiok! and UBAA Singapore to donate to Movement for the Intellectually Disabled of Singapore (MINDS) as a gift of cheer for the upcoming festive season to their MINDS Shops. MINDS run 5 thrift stores across the island that provide valuable avenues for their intellectually disabled clients for job opportunities and vocational training to learn how to interact with customers. MINDS Shops also provide a chance for members of the public to gain a better understanding of the challenges faced by our clients. Besides the day-to-day operations of managing the store and sorting through the goods, their clients also learn how to be resourceful such as by making good out of recycled and unwanted items.
Shiok! and UBAA Singapore aims to reach out to as many members as possible for this collection drive and will be doing pick-ups by request while there will also be a donation point at the SIM HQ building in Clementi with the support of SIM Global Education.
We are honoured to be part of this movement and look forward to your close support in our cause for MINDS and like to thank and wish everyone involved HAPPY INTERNATIONAL VOLUNTEER DAY this December 5th!
