This April, The Shiok Co. is calling all animal lovers to have a day of delicious fun while doing something paw-sitive at the same time at their third series of Events For A Purpose: Tarts For A Purpose.
Together with Tart & Co. and The Garden Slug, the weekend fundraiser will be donating 50% of all proceeds to the beneficiary of choice Hope Dog Rescue.
Avid pooch-lovers and owners of Singapore’s first bakery that specializes in tarts wanted to marry two of their passions while giving back to the community. The idea came to fruition when everyone came together to organize a weekend comprising of delicious tarts, a dog adoption drive, and a kibble donation drive at a cozy pet-friendly café.
HOPE Dog Rescue is a group of devoted volunteers who commit time out of their regular full-time jobs or school hours to rescue and foster dogs which are abused, neglected or abandoned.
We’re excited to have you join us – whether you’re bringing your furkids for a day out, or thinking about making a friend for life by giving a home to one of the dogs at the adoption drive – it’ll be a paw-fect way to spend a meaningful weekend.

Hope Dog Rescue is a 100% volunteer-run, not-for-profit group based in Singapore. They strongly believe that all animals should be treated with love and respect. The volunteers’ work involves helping animals that are abused, neglected or abandoned, as well caring for the stray dogs that make the streets of Singapore their home.
As the name suggests, the main bulk of their rescue work revolves around man’s best friend – dogs! As Hope Dog Rescue does not manage a physical shelter, their rescue work takes their volunteers to all parts of Singapore to help an animal in distress. And where rescue work is concerned, their work can happen at any time of the day.
Since their commencement in July 2011, they have helped rescued about 250 dogs and rehomed about 100 dogs. Hope Dog Rescue does not support culling and advocates controlling the stray population with the Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program. To date, they have helped sterilize about 300 dogs, and this figure is growing by the day as rescue work never stops.
On a weekly basis, Hope Dog Rescue feeds and supplies food for 50 to 70 dogs from factories/industrial areas, as well as low income families. As such, they require approximately 120kg of kibbles, 15kg of canned food and some 10kg of cooked food every week. Hope Dog Rescue relies on the commitment of their volunteers, fosterers, public support and financial aid to help with their rescue work.
