With the first match starting in less than 24 hours, it’s the season for some major football action again, and there’s nothing quite like soaking in the vibes of a boisterous and passionate crowd when it comes to the sport. So we say get off the couch, grab the pals and head on over to our picks of the places we’d go to catch the action LIVE.
Our pick: The Chamber Bar & Bistro at Robertson Quay
If we had to pick only one, this is where you’ll find us having a beer and wings during the games. With the crowd hanging at the main courtyard, there’s atmosphere aplenty with a good mix of the local and foreign crowd. Also, have we mentioned the wings? Oh the wings.
Food Republic Beer Garden @ St James
This outdoor supper place comes as a close second with its food options. Open till the wee hours of the morning, we don’t have to worry about going hungry while watching the action on the big screen. The last I was there to watch a game, my friend who just came back from his studies in the States was a happy camper satisfying all his local food cravings in one sitting. Cue satisfying burp.
Soak up the vibes amidst the locals and punters at the coffee shops in the neighbourhoods. While we’re sure most of these kopitiams will be screening the big matches like the kick-off, semi-finals and finals, it’s best to make friends with the uncles and find out if the other matches will be screened there as well. Do it the Singaporean way with Tiger beer… and some good ol’ chicken rice when you get peckish.
Thanks to the People’s Association, we can now watch the World Cup in our heartlands. Many of the community clubs will be hosting free live screenings, so be sure to check out their website for the full schedule! Ole, ole ole ole!
